The White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster were the emblems of the two Royal houses who both claimed the right to the Throne of England. After many years, the 'War of the Roses' ended when Henry Tudor VII of Lancaster married Princess Elizabeth of York. The symbol of the new era was the Tudor Rose combining the White Rose of York with the Red Rose of Lancaster.

Found as far back as Greek, Roman and Assyrian mythos, the Griffin, a mythical creature having the head, forepart, and wings of an eagle and the body, hind legs, and tail of a lion. Often depicted as heroic symbols, they are well known for their speed, ability to fly, piercing sight, as well as having great strength and courage. In Assyria (an ancient empire of western Asia,) both the griffin and the dragon were symbols of wisdom. In Roman art, griffins are often pulling the chariot of Nemesis (goddess of justice and revenge).
