Pearls are a natural gemstone. They do require some special care. I recommend these simple guidelines to help you keep them looking their best for many years of enjoyment.

  1. Your pearls should be put on last and taken off first. Pearls are naturally porous, and will absorb any perfumes or oils which will discolor your pearls. Always put your perfumes on and let it dry before putting on your pearls. You should also avoid wearing your pearls while in swimming pools, jacuzzis, saunas or other heavily chlorinated water.

  2. Never use any jewelry cleaner, soaps, or detergents on your pearls. The chemicals can eat the nacre and destroy your pearls. You may wipe them with a soft, water dampened cloth, or a cloth dipped in alcohol, diluted with warm (not hot) water, or in a weak solution of soap and water. After wiping with alcohol, dip the cloth in clean water, and wipe the pearls again. Finally, gently rub the pearls with a soft, dry cloth, until the pearls are dry. Do not leave the pearls wet. Never use any type of abrasive soaps or substances such as ground pumice, elctro-silcon or any type of polishing powder. If you wish to “polish” your pearls, use rice or pearl powder only! Shake some powder onto a clean, soft, dry cloth, and rub the pearls gently. Wipe any excess powder off, then store pearls in their case

  3. Keep your pearls in the pouch, or case provided by the jeweler. They may be scratched if mixed in with chains or other metal jewelry.

  4. Wear them often. Pearls increase in luster and beauty with frequent wear.

It is my hope that you enjoy your pearls and wear them in good health for many years.
